Exeter becomes a home for most if not all students, and it's a wonderful place to explore, ask questions, be very confused, and learn! Choate Rosemary Hall is a private high school located in Wallingford, CT and has 846 students in grades 9th through 12th. All of their programs are well funded and conducted. To this day, years after Prize Day (our version of Commencement), my roommates and best friends from Groton are people with whom I speak daily and consider the closest thing to family I have outside of my household. I love the academic challenge that Cranbrook provides to each student. The student body is also very welcoming and makes me feel at home. And, its college prep classes are offered in small class sizes with an average class of 12 and a student to teacher ratio of 6: 1. All the people there are so nice and although the classes are pretty difficult, the school does everything they can to help you and make life easier. I graduated from Peddie and am attending an Ivy League institution, and I wholeheartedly believe that my time at Peddie was more difficult. The traditional campus plan is just as beautiful but the 21st century facilities are state-of-the-art. Students who are here actually want to be here, teachers are passionate and very intelligent, and the community is unparalleled. Additionally, unlike one of the most reputable schools in LA, SC didn't make the parents go through a separate interview which we found insulting given our educational and professional credentials. The Ed Specialists in the REN program are angels on Earth. There are phenomenal teachers who are passionate about their subjects and encourage students to go beyond the classroom pursuing their interests. I could say so much more but don't have enough space! PEA offers so many opportunities to partake in such a wide variety of activities- from dance to sports to 3D design to robotics and everything/anything in between. Top 100 boarding schools in the world based on percent matriculation to Ivy League, Oxbridge, MIT and Stanford. Students and faculty are super approachable and open to new ideas and challenges (I've been in math classes where kids designed new alternative formulas and literature/history classes with memorable discussions and friendly debates). The administration has been less strong since I’ve left, but they are definitely growing and improving. Most faculty live on campus, making them regularly available to the students and further nurturing a friendship between the two entities. Our "lower-mid" (10th grade) child has had a fantastic experience in her first few months, despite the Covid lockdowns. They have such a range of clubs and activities, there is something for everyone!I would highly recommend Choate from my personal experiences, but of course everyone experiences differ. Weekends are always a blast: brunches have the quality of a restaurant buffet and all school buildings are open for use. And the teachers are wonderfully capable, intelligent, and empathetic—they're some of my best friends, insofar as a teacher-student relationship can constitute a friendship. Our child is thriving here and discovering so many new pursuits. Alum: My daughter graduated in 2011, and I am a member of the Alumni Council for Phillips Academy (full disclosure). The smaller classes really allows for students to meet with teachers one-on one when struggling, peer tutors are readily available throughout the school year, and the academic skills center is staffed with learning specialist who can help student from anything from time management to grammar help.
