Chamberlain also makes garage door openers with MyQ built in, so the Wi-Fi Hub isn’t needed. When it does this the app gives an error message: "The door cannot be controlled because of too many failed attempts. I have a detached garage which means my MyQ hub is about 100 feet from my WiFi router. Then, you go to the Alexa app and discover new devices. Now I can close the garage door without even having to pick up my phone. After all, some of the big time product review sites list the device as the “best smart garage door controller“. WTF?? But, it does the basics really well at a good price. It will guide you step-by-step through the installation process. NOTE: It’s not necessary to install the mounting bracket. Instead, it controls your garage door opener by copying the signal from your opener’s remote. After creating an account, I found my Wi-Fi signal in the garage was sufficient so I placed in near the opener, mostly to centrally locate the light. What could be worse, really? It works a couple of weeks and then it happens again - and of course, I don't find out until the next day that my garage door has been open all night!!! Oddly, it does require a subscription to integrate with Google Home and IFTTT. Unfortunately, Chamberlain stopped this capability (although the app still has the scheduling portion intact a year later) due to a communications issue with the door position sensor when the battery was low. When my venerable Genie screw-drive garage door opener inevitably is put out to pasture, I will likely be looking at a Chamberlain with MyQ to fill the gap. Between myself a paid employee, and Chamberlain tech support - we spent 11 hours trying to get 2 garage doors to open and we could ultimately only get one door to work leaving the 2nd garage door disconnected from the system, we thought. There's a problem loading this menu right now. Until a future update is pushed out these are locked to one account forever and can't be reset for a new user. My wife is going to love this! It started off extremely frustrating. And in case you’re wondering…no, it can’t be disabled. Learned I have a Lift Master door opener -  5 years in the house and never looked up to notice. They are the ONLY smarthome company who has made this choice, and their user community is outraged. A great product if you follow the instructions. Inevitably, the door gets left open, creating an ideal habitat for many friendly (and not so friendly) woodland creatures. The door sensor is battery powered so it requires zero wiring.
