You are chased by the cops, you are all over the news, your name is chanted by by the crowd wherever you go. The kind of journey you would have thought will never happen in your dream. A trio of young Kiwis with nothing to lose drive a hot car the length of New Zealand and become folk heroes along the way in this sleek, kinetic and eye-catching retooling of the 1981 film that slapped the word “Goodbye” at the beginning and put the country on the map. When Jon's beat up car dies on him - he accepts a ride with Luke, and the car chasing/police avoidance soon begins. A must see - 328 locals attended the Regent in Taumarunui on 11th February- for us - a full house. Brilliant cast including Dean O'Gorman(my favorite actor) James Rolleston and Ashleigh. In keeping with the original's style, there is the occasional slapstick moment like the characters' meet-cute at a fast-food restaurant's window, and That Classic Line feels shoe-horned in, but the viewer's eye-rolling is tempered by performances which range from solidly endearing to surprisingly affecting. Three endearing actors play the three not-annoying main characters, the script provides plenty of laughs and there are some tight chase scenes. Go see this movie! Pork Pie will leave you feeling uplifted and willing to go on a road trip! Goodbye Pork Pie, the original movie was (and is) such an iconic film. This is an original Cinema which is breathing fresh life again in to the Cinema experience. This was a Volunteer Fire Brigade fundraiser for our small town. Running time: 105 MIN. It may have been made in the late 70's/early 80's, but it's one of those films which is a timeless classic. It’s not meant to be. Score – 3 out of 5 stars. It rings 9 am in the alarm. Everything is perfect. They get an appetite for burgers after eluding a hapless traffic cop, and acquire fast-food employee-cum-vegetarian activist Keira (Ashleigh Cummings, so good in the recent Australian thriller “Hounds of Love”) when she wriggles out the drive-thru window literally into their laps. Stopping for a burger in a funny scene Keira the drive through burger operator girl opts to throw in her job and join the lads, hoping to get to Wellington where she has arranged an anti animal cruelty/meat for burgers type rally. This movie was an amazing road trip through beautiful New Zealand scenery and lots of humor! The Kiwi's really have something unique going on in their films . “Goodbye Pork Pie was an extremely bold and entertaining piece of Kiwi film making,” says Murphy the younger. Along the way Keira plugs them into social media and they become increasingly less reluctant folk heroes cheered on by the populace. The wind blowing against your face brings back all your good old memories.Your crush boards the cab. And, all the while, as they evade the cops, the story goes around and country tries to cheer for... whatever they're trying to do. “It defined a time and place for many Kiwis but it’s not the same movie updated. The chase intensifies in the mid-Canterbury/Otago regions, a very funny scene with a guy keen to join the now infamous trio - as the rush to Invercargill somehow continues. Now thanks to this movie, I would have to say that New Zealand can happily be known for something other then middle earth! "Pork pie" is not an edge of the seat thriller or crime thriller. I met a lot of great people, but a young fellow, Dan Gilliland and I became friends at Puffing Billy. The creators of this movie would have been proud if they had been sitting in the audience. TL;DR – Some of the best car chases I have seen, but this is coupled with a story that just doesn’t work all that well. A series of bizarre events lead to three misfits being chased in a stolen yellow mini across the country, a guy who's struggling to complete a novel and reconnect with his ex, a young Maori delinquent and a young female vegan activist. So there is no reason a 2017 update should be anything other – but certainly no reason (or in fact reasonable expectation) that it be Just the Same, either. Initially Luke stole the car while running away from some thugs, then ended up picking up a hitchhiking Jon after almost running him over, then picking up Keira, after she quit her fast foot job. Story, direction, production, soundtrack ... epic ... Masterful ... energetic ... From start to finish a beautiful example of filmography. But all we did on the way home was talk about the movie & how great it was. and a guaranteed laugh with a bit of romance to spice things up! Three young people on the run become national folk heroes in Matt Murphy’s flashy update of his father Geoff’s 1981 local hit. Ps - keep the remote handy , you might need to ride the volume a bit in this one . Central to any film's success, of course, is that we care about the protagonists at least as much as what happens to them. It's a great fun movie with some real hard case kiwi humour, it's a must see!! Hello, “Pork Pie.”.
